ABOUT

YOU ARE ALL WELCOME

What is a hackathon? A hackathon is a mixture of „hack“ and „marathon“, where “hack” is used in the sense of exploratory programming. Our hackathon is normally a 48-hour-event, where geeks, techies, designer, digital nomads, creative minds, entrepreneur and number crunchers come together to find in small teams creative and innovative solutions on a specific topic. But this time we offer 5 days of fun and entertainment at home. Our goal is that even in those difficult times the possibility of creating great prototypes is given. There is no limit to diversity – everyone who wants to be part of something great is welcome.

WHAT ABOUT CORONA?

Due to the Corona pandemic this year’s HACKADON will be an online event. This means you can join the event remotely. But we will offer you timeslots to pick up materials and prototype at brigk Makerspace in Ingolstadt. We will take care of everybody’s health with several actions.
All keynotes and workshops will be available as video conference and/or live stream.

The hackathon is designed that even in lockdown times with your daily work you can participate. That´s why we decided to go for 5 days. You can individually decide when you work on your awesome idea and then full throttle on the weekend!

WHY IT WAS AND STILL IS CALLED HACKADON

Why HACKADON? HACKADON was the first smart city hackathon with Google Assistant in cooperation with Google, MediaMarktSaturn, IFG and INVG in Ingolstadt 2018.

One of Google’s smart home devices is the so-called Google Home mini, which looks like a donut. That’s why we named our past event HACKADON – a combination of “hackathon” and “donut”. But as you live in a great region nearby the DONau river (Danube), we thought we keep that name.

Last year, we decided to repeat this awesome event and start HACKADON as an annual series. So a new series of hackathons was born and it’s going to continue now.

This year we want to give lots of hackers the opportunity to use their skills and achieve great results! Therefore, we offer three different tracks in which you can work on challenges. Just choose a track and work on a topic where you can show your knowledge.

The track GAMIFICATION is about developing games and simulations. They should take place or be usable in the Ingolstadt region. A challenge in this track could include games such as Pokémon Go or simulations such as traffic managers or tourist guides. There is no limit to your creativity! In addition, we offer a challenge on public transport in Ingolstadt. Here, existing applications are to be improved in order to increase the acceptance of the local public transport system.

Regarding the track URBAN MOBILITY the brigk HACKADON focuses on the topic “In-Car-Payments”. Here we ask you to develop solutions that allow the fully automated processing of payments via car. For example, such payments could be parking, fuel or loading costs. We are looking for innovative ideas from both hardware and software.

The third track of brigk HACKADON deals with the currently very important field of SUSTAINABILITY. With its variety of topics in the field of economically, socially and ecologically sustainable development, the track rounds off this year’s HACKADON. Participants who decide to work on a topic in this field may develop their own project idea according to their interests. The only thing that is important about this track is that the project can improve the Ingolstadt region in a sustainable way.

GOAL

What is the goal of HACKADON? Our hackathon this year offers three completely different tracks – from software only to hardware prototyping or a mixture of both. Get creative and have fun at developing a Ingolstadt based game, create solutions for collecting or evaluating urban mobility data to change it for good or join the sustainability track and take part in keeping the world as we know and love it.
Exhibit your talent for pioneering innovation at the cutting edge. Think outside the box and evolve solutions – there is always something new to discover.

FAQ

What about Corona?

Due to the Corona pandemic this year’s HACKADON will be an online event. This means you can join the event remotely. But we will offer you timeslots to pick up materials and prototype at brigk Makerspace in Ingolstadt. We will take care of everybody’s health with several actions.
All keynotes and workshops will be available as video conference and/or live stream.

Can I leave my home for the hackathon?

For working in the makerspace on your prototype lets say to use the 3D printer we can provide you with the paperwork that are allowed to leave your home and come to your upfront scheduled slot in the makerspace. If you feel not safe leaving your home we can even (to a certain point) provide your help and that we are printing or lasercutting stuff for you. We can even deliver things to your home. Let us know and we will see how we can help. In any other case please follow at all times the given rules by our government.

What if there is another lockdown?

A lockdown will not be critical for our HACKADON. All participants will join the event remotely. All keynotes, workshops and the pitches will be held without audience in the brigk Makerspace and will be available via video conference and/or live stream. The support team will be available via chat or video calls, so you can get help at any time of the event. If you need any hardware supplies or prototyping capabilities in the Makerspace, we will arrange time slot for as many people as allowed and save at that very moment.

Can I attend parallel to my daily work?

Yes you can. That´s why decided to go for 5 days to give you more time. We start and kickoff the event in the evening, have a daily morning briefing and then always at certain points additional video calls with you. All sessions will be recorded so that you can watch them afterwards as well. But starting with the weekend on friday let´s go full throttle to disrupt the world with your idea!

Do I have to be a programmer to attend?

NO! We’re looking for a diverse group of people who want to work on an idea for a few days. You’re a designer? Help create the user interface. You’re a business rockstar? Help create a business or customer plan. You want to try coding for the first time? We will have introduction workshops that will give you a first glance about coding. During the event a support team will help you and answer all your questions.

Is it just for students?

Not it isn´t. Anybody who wants to hack those 5 days is welcome. Professionals, students, hobbyists. You only have to be at least 18 years old.

How many people will the hackathon have?

We’re planning with ca. 60-70 attendees, students, professionals and hobbyists come and join us! Just apply here!

What about hardware?

Normally the hackathon venue is the brigk Makerspace. A professional prototyping workshop, with plenty of boards, tools, and gadgets for you to check out and where you can build prototypes and products! This year your very own living room is the place where the magic happens. You will connect with others online and work on great prototypes. And if you want to use the machinery in the makerspace to make prototype even better you can also let us know and we will schedule with you a slot. And let us know upfront what you need in your registration sheet and we’ll try to get it for you and deliver it.

What can I build?

Basically, any innovative service you like which matches in your opion the given challenges. You can incorporate our gadgets and build a highly sophisticated prototype which you can demo live. The main goal is to build something and to showcase it. Less Powerpoint – more Prototype!

Headstart?

Only projects started at the hackathon will be eligible for prizes. But sure you can brainstorm upfront or let us know what you would need for an awesome prototype.

How do I find a team?

A team should have max. 5 people. On the first day, we will have a short pitch event. That means, you can come with an idea and tell everyone what you’re looking for or you get inspired by other people. Maximum team size is 5 but of course you also can work in projects on smaller teams, there is no minimum size. We also offer the possibility to find teammates before the event – contact us.

What should I bring to the event?

This year you probably have all you need already at home. And for the rest we will deliver you treats, gadgets and surprises,

Overnight Stay?

Sure! You can stay overnight in your own rooms ;-). Due to the renewed lockdown there is no option onsite.

Will there be travel reimbursements available?

Unfortunately not.

I don´t have an idea yet. Do you have a little inspiration?

It is no problem if you haven´t had the time to come up with an idea yet. You can attend without idea. In the Hackadon you will have enough time to come up with something good! Don’t hesitate to participate, apply, be part of the party and the ideas will flow on their own!
